Hi The problem (for me) with backing up the *.dsk files is that you can only do a full restore from them; there's no way to do a partial. So, I've been favoring the method of running backup software

Hello All, Here is something new... Has anyone tried to backup /vmfs/*.dsk and /vmconfig on a Red Hat Linux OS? It appears to backup the dsk files you need to stop the VMWare processes and then copy
you should export the dsk file from the vmfs to an ext2 filesystem using vmkfstool. for example: vmkfstools -e /backup/exportvm.dsk vmfs:vm_name.dsk this will create 2G chunks from the dsk file on /b
