Connection refused message usually means no nsrexecd running. Is nsrexecd running ? Is name resolution for the client OK ? Can you ping it from the server ? What is the output of 'rpcinfo -p client'

Maybe it is not even installed. Check with dpkg or synaptic and make sure it is installed. The package name is portmap. After that you should probably use /etc/init.d/portmap start and make sure that

Ok I installed portmap. rpcinfo -p: program vers proto port 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper So it doesn't look like networker is mapped. Something else I need to do? +-- +-- T

You didn't restart networker after you installed portmap. I think this should be /etc/init.d/networker restart rpcinfo -p: program vers proto port 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmap

I restarted the entire box. I think you gave me the tip I needed though. /etc/init.d/networker is not a command its a script. So I ran sh /etc/init.d/networker status and it told me it wasn't running

As root, you need to create a symlink to /etc/init.d/networker in /etc/rc5.d (assuming, IIRC, Ubuntu uses runlevel 5 for regular ops). If so, it will be like this: The number in the symbolic link is
