We also have a Dell PV136T and we have never had to unlock the mailbox slots in order to insert or remove tapes, it's always unlocked except when I place new tapes into them and close the mailbox slo

No, I am sorry. Our DellPV 136T has exactly the same settings as you write, the mailbox is imprt/exprt. It is not configured as storage. Peter, you are right that DellPV 136T is nearly the same as AD

Hildegard, try running this low-level legato driver command: sjirdp [email protected] ..should show details as queried directly from the library hardware...and these can be compared to the nsrjb output..
