Someone please tell me what I've overlooked here... We put a new 7.5.1 server into production about three weeks ago. It has across-the-board browse and retention policies of one month (itself and all

Len, I suppose you takes a bootstrap after any group completion. If so, group not containing backup server as client will have default retention of 1 year applied to bootstrap. To avoid the problem:

You're right - I've seen this technique before and it's an option. However, in this case it's probably a last resort. In this particular environment, doing a separate index/bootstrap backup will hav

Yes - In fact, we back up our indexes to the same pool(s) as everything else. This particular environment is relatively small (but highly important, of course! :-), so KISS works well here. Ah ha -

It's always been my understanding that if the server is not a member of an active group then its bootstrap (possibly index, too) will get backed up by every group. When a group runs, each of its cons

Keep It Simple, Stupid. :-) We specify all our schedules per each client resource, not at the group level. So, yes, if it's an all-skip schedule specified there, it will be all skips. Yes, full clon

Your solution looks like to create an extra client with the name of your backup server, giving it Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip-Skip schedule with correct browse/retention (eg 1 month) and made it me

Yep. That's what I did and it worked. The bootstraps written last night have the proper retention period. I've since gone back through the long/wrong ones with nsrmm and reset them appropriately. Th
