This happens to me sometimes too, even when it is not a scratch tape. If I use bconsole to do a umount, followed by a mount, the tape will be recognized on the second try and the backup will continue

Does your definition of the drive in bacula-dir.conf refer to the same device in bacula-sd.conf that the autochanger uses or do you have to make another Device{} definition in bacula-sd.conf without
I tried unmounting and mounting, releasing and mounting, both several times. Finally, I restarted the bacula-sd daemon, which caused the job to cancel with an error. Very strange. We will see what h
