What is Version Numbers...in Backup

I am beginners in Storage and would like to know what is backup up version numbers and how it works.

Be more precise? What backup versions do you mean? Versioning of files in TSM? Or versions/releases of TSM? If file versions in TSM I suggest you view this link.
