If the backup file from client is a virus file, is it affect the backup server? Or the backup server just see the backup file as blocks of data, and don't care content of the file?

It won't affect the tsm server. It just sees it as blocks of data like you said.

In fact, generally you should *disable* virus scanning on the tsm server for disk stgpool files (and no harm in doing the DB&Log files at the same time). Otherwise if you do backup a virus and your virus scanner sees this in your stgpool vol, it will trash it.

TSM server stores all data of virus (meta-data & real data). Why does TSM server see virus as blocks of data? Why not virus?

Goodboy, you don't understand. A virus is not dangerous (and you have not caught it) if you merely store it. A virus is only dangerous and "caught" when you execute its code. TSM does not execute the files it backs up that would be ridiculous.

I see. Thanks BBB!
