So I have this issue I can't figure out. Let see if I could get help here faster than IBM.

I have done the installs and configuration just fine.
The backup keep failing with TCPIP error. This usually mean ports are not open, behind some kind of firewalls.
Check and verified and telnet all the required ports and it's good.

so tried to backup just one vm individually. When I monitored it, it failed halfway throught rather than in the beginning.
So I'm thinking it might access issue, sometime login issue could cause tcpip error.

Anyone has any idea what might the cause?

  • ERROR ANS4174E Full VM backup of VMware Virtual Machine ' failed with RC=-50
  • ERROR ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure.
vcenter: 6.0
host : esxi 6.0
vm version: 8 on vm tested

I have actually seen this before in only one of my DP for VE environments for a customer.

In my situation, It basically occurs when another process comes along within vCenter and wants to snapshot the same vm that DP for VE is currently trying to snapshot. i.e another backup app like veeam. or a scheduled vCenter snapshot.

Thank you that makes sense. It was a hung snapshot. After snapshot the backup starts and hangs so the next step(delete snapshot) never took place.
