TSM tapes are in "unavailable" mode

Hi all,



Couple of the tapes in the storage pool are in "unavailable" state. I've tried to change them back to "Read/Write" state, but it goes back to "unavailable" again less than half minute later. I cannot audit the tape because it is in unavailable state. What can i do to fix this problem and save all the data inside??



ANR1420W Read access denied for volume 211113 - volume access mode = "unavailable".



Also can someone explain how come it became unavailable all of a sudden? Last time TSM read this tape was only last week.

Hello,



Try updating the vol to read only..."upd vol XXXXXXX access=reado", then move all the data from these volume "move data XXXXX".



The volumes may have become damaged etc....Good old tape media etc...



If you can't move all the data from these volume you will then need to either restore the volume from your copy pool or delete the volume.



I would discard these tapes if it won't let you move all the data from them.....
