TSM instance password during update: 6.3.5.1 to 7.1.5.2

I am not 100% sure about the answer to this so here goes.

I have a TSM server on Redhat 6.2 running TSM 6.3.5.1 and updating to 7.1.5.2. The TSM server has 5 instances each with its own unique instance ID.

During the update it asked for the instance ID password which has been expired or forgotten (depending on the case).

Question:

I know updating the password before the update does not affect the previous installation and should update related systems. Is this so?

Just to update: the answer is YES. You can change the password without issues.
