is there any option to run dsmj with a newer JRE version?

# dsmj
ERROR: The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 17.0.3
found in your environment is not supported!
Please install the required JRE version 1.7

client version is 8.1.12

here the answer from IBM:

As listed in our documentation for the Linux x86_64 client:
The Java™ GUI and web backup-archive client requires Java: JRE 7 or JRE 8

You can find this information at the following link:

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/linux-x86x8664-client-requirements#Release 8.1

So, to use the backup-archive client GUI, Java JRE 7 or JRE 8 must be installed on the system.
I understand that it may not be ideal, but if you are unable to install an older version due to other software dependencies, you will have to use the backup-archive client command line (dsmc) to perform client procedures.
