TSM 5.5 and old web gui

Dunno if this is related but when we upgraded to IE7 the TSM 5.2 web gui was next to useless. Used mozzilla firefox instead.

As much as everyone seemed to like the old web GUI, eventually it will cease to work. Why not move forward instead of relying on something that IBM is going to continue to dismantle? Just my two cents worth.

Hi,

Tureem: yes, worked on fresh install as well as on upgraded one - all Windows. What platform are you using?
GregE: if you are really using the ISC and LIKE IT, then I have to admire you :)
may: ... a sad news indeed ....

The talk is a more streamlined Web Admin center along the lines of TSMExpress being released for 6. But they hosed the current solution so bad I am being pessimistic in any hope of them actually fixing it. My hope is they surprise me, but I doubt they will.

Merde. Time to really learn to do bloody everything by CLI.

Not about to dedicate a machine that would play a seriously fast game of Pacman :D to multiple PB and THz of bloatware  crap  to define the occasional node and update the occasional path. Which are about the only things for which I turn to the Web GUI still, because it's actually faster than looking up the exact CLI syntax.

:-D Well, I never use it, always using command line. And as a disclaimer, I wasn't involved with TSM before 5.3 so I've never used the old web GUI everyone talks about. I've seen it, but never used it.

Opening left frame in new window does not help...

It seems that the problem i have is linked to the idl file and adding of it. Here is the log...
Any suggestions? I am using a fresh install on a windows 2003 64-bit server.

Hi,

are you SURE, you have the files unpacked in the correct directories? (beware, on Windows it is WEBIMAGE, not WEBIMAGES) This "DDEFINE ..." thing seems to indicate you do not.

Hope it helps

Harry

and in the starting progress you should have a message like this

****************
ANR8190I HTTP driver ready for connection with clients on port 1580
****************

i think you forgot to specify these entrie in your dsmser.opt file
HTTPPORT 1580
COMMMETHOD TCPIP
COMMMETHOD HTTP

Triple-checked my directories and they are exacly the same as my prod 5.4 server.

And HTTP port is ok when starting server normal. (dsmserv runfile does not open the server for inputs by design)

So, no luck getting it to work yet.. i will keep looking though.

When you say fresh install, did you load an old database?

My conclusions sofar by using a freshly installed 5.5 database (as in not restored an old one)

My error message:
DDEFINE CLASS: Table name DISKS is not valid.

All right, lets se if that table exists on the 5.5 database:

Issuing SELECT TABNAME FROM TABLES shows output below and it has no DISKS table.
(Same query on my 5.4 prod database, which is an upgraded from 5.2 -> 5.3 -> 5.4, show that this database has table DISKS)

Fresh 5.5 database:

So, how to get it to work without an old database?

Hi Tureem,

first - sorry, I have misguided you - on the fresh, clean install of TSM 5.5 on Windows the old Web interface DOES NOT work using the pre-defined script.
Problem is that there were few tables in old TSM version that got deleted in 5.3, 5.4. and 5.5 ... as you found on your own
Good thing is that when I modified the dsmserv.idl (renamed windows.idl), I was able to make it working.
What has to be done:
you have to delete section with table=disk and table=diskpath and then certain parts in ddefine operation section
These sections then will not appear in the web interface but as they are useless now you do not need to regret that.

Send me an email ([email protected]) and I can send you modified dsmserv.idl

The rest stays the same

Harry

Funny thing is my 5.4 server, which was upgraded from 5.3 and 5.2, does not have a DISKS table. It used to, I'm certain of that, I think as recently as 5.3, but it does not now.

Web GUI gives
Code:
Server Error

Interface error encountered in the Hypertext Engine (hthtml.c,1303).
ANR2032E HTML: Command failed - internal server error detected.
ANR9999D Thread<40> issued message 2032 from:
when clicking on Server Storage -> Disks. Other than that (with the probable exception of Disk Paths and possibly more like that as well of course, but I didn't test that), it still works.

Hello,

I'm also a fan of the old web gui, can someone send me a valid dsmserv.idl file or show me which lines to delete? I tried on my own, but kinda deleted too much :)

Thanks,

edited: I got it from Harry (thanks again), you can send a message to me to get it.

I would really appreciate if someone could send me the modified dsmserv.idl!

Edit: Got it from Harry and installed it and it works well! Thanks!
