One of the requirements our DBA's have is the ability to restore the backed up databases to an alternative location for testing on a development server or QA server. It appears that SQL VSS backups are an efficient way to do a full backup, but in practice there is no supported method to restore one of these backups to an alternate SQL server.
Am I understanding this correctly or is there a compelling reason we should be using VSS? VSS is the default, but it appears that we will not be using it if you can't restore the databases to an alternate server as you can with Legacy mode.
