Hey Rai hw u doin

in the below command the <User> is TSM node name that i created for TDP for SAP Or it is a SAP user ?
brbackup -u <user>/<password> -c -m all -t offline ????
when i put TSM node name in this command parameter it gives me the below output

-u user/password is orasid. Most DBA configure it in such a way that the orasid user can connect to oracle without a password. Then you can use "-u /"

In the second output there is no reference to the actual utl-file.
BKI0000E: Profile not specified.

I suspect due lacking to specify the utl file in the initSID.sap file:
# backup utility parameter file
# default: no parameter file
util_par_file = /oracle/PR4/102_64/dbs/initPR4.utl

brbackup -u <user>/<password> -c -m all -t offline ????

I miss the parameter -p <path to initPRD.utl>
Seems that there is something wrong in your SAP setup ( initPRD.sap )

e.g.: output of one of my test systems

Missing environment variables?
DSMI_DIR=<TSM client install directory>\baclient
DSMI_CONFIG=<TSM client install directory>\baclient\dsm.opt

page 151 in the troubleshooting part of the user guide

the installation directory of my BA client is
C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\

so do i need to configure the environment variable like this ?

DSMI_CONFIG = C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\dsm.opt

DSMI_DIR = C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\

I am confused because the installation directory of TDP 4 SAP also have dsm.opt file so which file i have to point....

DSMI_CONFIG to the dsm.opt that you adjusted for SAP. So probably the one in the TDP install dir.
The DSMI_DIR keeps refering to the install dir of the ba-client.

the location of the directory of BA client
DSMI_DIR=<Installation directory of BA Client>\baclient

the location of dsm.opt file that belongs to the TDP for ERP
DSMI_CONFIG=<Installation directory of TDP for ERP>\dsm.opt

is it okay now ?

but dsm.opt file is empty that is exist on the installation path of TDP for ERP folder ?? do i need to enter any information on it or leave it blank ?

after updating the environment variable can i execute this command brbackup -u / -c -m all -t online

I set Environment Variable
DSMI_CONFIG = <Installation directory DP 4 SAP>\dsm.opt

I open the dsm.opt file on notepad i found that the file is empty, there are some lines of comments saying that set this file on the environemtn variable ...

hi tsmlover I guess we turn in the circle.... here some questions

Q1: value of SERVER in initPRD.utl
A: SERVER = server_a "server_a.opt file that is exisit on the installation directory of DP 4 SAP"
Q2: path of the file <SERVER>.opt ( see Q1 )
A: do u mean server_a.opt file or dsm.opt both files are in DP 4 SAP installation folder
Q3: files existing in path where <SERVER>.opt resists ( see Q2 )
A: do i need to create server.opt file
Q4: value of the system variables DSMI_* ( !! system not user !! )
A: Yes System Variables
DSMI_CONFIG = <Installation directory DP 4 SAP>\dsm.opt
DSMI_DIR = <the diffault installation directory of BA-Client>\baclient

Q5: value of util_para_file in initPRD.sap
A: util_par_file = initPRD.utl "I didnt mention the path before initPRD.util file name because both files initPRD.sap & InitPRD.utl are in the same folder = 'D:\oracle\PRD\102\database'

Q5: result of "backint -p D:\oracle\PRD\102\database\initPRD.utl -f inquire"

I updated only 3 files as per your instructions

D:\oracle\PRD\102\database\initPRD.util
D:\oracle\PRD\102\database\initPRD.sap
C:\program file\Tivoli\TSM\TDP4SAP\server_a.opt

---------------------------------------------------
C:\program file\Tivoli\TSM\TDP4SAP\dsm.opt <-this is empty file that i set with environment variable...

you didnt mention <server>.opt dnt know what is that

- please answer my questions exactly like
Q4: value of the system variables DSMI_* ( !! system not user !! )
A: DSMI_CONFIG=C:\Tivoli\TSM\config.opt\dsm.opt
A: DSMI_DIR=C:\tivoli\tsm\api
A: DSMI_LOG=C:\Tivoli\TSM\log\dsierror.log
Q1: value of SERVER in initPRD.utl
A: SERVER server_a
....
- copy the 2 opt files dsm.opt and <server>.opt into an other directory. the install directory of ERP is not the best place, and change the DSMI_* variabel.
Q5: this command verify your ERP setup. if this failed BR* will failed too

you didnt mention <server>.opt dnt know what is that

alle values in < value > are variables and need to be replaced with the value of your setup

<server>.opt = initPRD.utl > SERVER > server_a = server_a.opt

so <server>.opt = server_a.opt in your environment

Q1: value of SERVER in initPRD.utl

BACKUIDPREFIX PRD___
SERVER server_a
PASSWORDREQUIRED yes
ADSMNODE my_node_name
BRBACKUPMGT my_backup_class :mad:oh i set it copy group archive too
BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS my_archive_class

Note: I created 2 managemnet classes with a copy group of Archive, both management classes belongs to a same policy domain. and both management classes use a same storage pool ... is it ryte ?

Q2: path of the file <SERVER>.opt
the path of server_a.opt is the default installation path of TDP for SAP that is c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\tdpr3\server_a.opt
NODEname my_node_name
PASSWORDACCESS PROMPT
TCPServeraddress 10.0.0.1 <--tsm server ip address

DSMI_CONFIG=c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\tdpr3\dsm.opt

DSMI_DIR=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tivoli\tsm\baclient

do i need to update dsm.opt file as well ?
