Hi There,

We have RMAN DB backup method placed in our environment. Those are scheduled with Incremental DB backup on Mon-Sat and Full backup on Sun.

In our Production environment, sometimes scheduled incremental DB backup is failing withe below error. But if we take it manual DB backup, it will finish successfully.
Could someone check and let me know what is this error and why its occurring.

Error:
RMAN-03009: failure of allocate command on C1 channel at 05/23/2018 18:30:05
ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE device name:
ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library

Thanks,
Vivek, Pune, IND

Check your RMAN configuration which should match TSM configuration/setup.

The issue here is that RMAN does not "see" the defined backup environment or there are not enough mountpoints.

Correct errors if there are; try to increase maxnummp for the node on the TSM server side. The node may be wanting to use more mounts but TSM does not allow it.

This situation is mostly avoided by dumping backup to disk first before moving to tape (if you are writing to tape directly) making sure that maxnummp setting is greater than allowed resourceutilization numbers.

Ok.
Thanks Buddy..

I just checked and found that maxnumvalue set as 1.
We also checking for RMAN and TSM configurations. If we find both are same, then we can go ahead and increase maxnummp value.
