RETRIEVE

Have to do a retrieve a tape <vol> that was backed up on ...

The restore/retrieve is done via the TSM Client.
If your trying to restore/retrieve the data via the TSM Server, not going to work.
The TSM Server know where the node data are located, need to perform the restore/retrieve via the TSM Client.

Was the data backed up or archived?
If the data was archive, use the TSM Client GUI and select "retrieve" to get the data back
and if you get "no match found". The data was not archived.

If the data was backed up, use the TSM Client GUI, there is a selection of the PID, and if you get "no match found".

Several possibility.
- The data was not backed up at the time that you think.
- The data have expire and no longer exist.

1. From the main TSM window, click Restore.

2 To ensure that you see all versions of a file eligible for restore, click the View option from the top toolbar, and verify that the Display active/inactive option is set.

3 Expand the directory tree, and then check the boxes next to the files and directories you want to restore. To search or filter files:
a. From the toolbar, click Find.
b. In the "Find Files (Restore)" window, enter your search criteria, and then click either Search or Filter to search or filter files, respectively.
c. Check the boxes next to the files you want to restore, and then close the "Matching Files (Restore)" window.

4. To modify restore options for the current session only, click Options.
5. lick Restore, and then enter the destination in the "Restore Destination" window.
6. Click Restore. The "Restore Task List" window will display the status of the restore.

If you can not find the files as per above.

On the TSM Server check the retention settings, more than likely the data have expire (q co f=d)

Do I have to retrieve another directory.

Only if you want to prevent overwriting current versions of files with older versions.

Good Luck,
Sias
