restoring a database. what about system databases?

I am trying to figure out if when restoring one of my databases if it would also be required to restore one or more of the system databases. It seems like everyday activity wouldn't require this, but I don't know enough about the system databases to be sure. Can someone enlighten me?

What database are you referring to - TSM or node like Oracle or SQL?

I was referring to restoring an SQL database and the need to also restore the system SQL databases master, model, and msdb.

You can restore just what you need. You don't have to restore any other.

That's the thing I don't know if I need to restore system databases when restoring an SQL database. Do you know when or if system database restores would be required?

I have never restored any system database unless the whole system crashed or got corrupted.
