I am pretty sure I know the answer to this already (i.e., no you can't), but just in case: can one restore NDMP backups to a regular Windows file system?

As far as I know, no you cannot restore ndmp to a regular filesystem. This is coming from both TSM and CommVault experience. You can restore ndmp backups between NAS vendors, but you need to check the compatibility.

You definitely cannot do it with TSM. You definitely CAN do it with Commvault, though. That was a major driver for moving to Commvault for my company.

What version of commvault? I don't recall that in v9. Been awhile since I used it however.

I started my Commvault journey on Version 11. To their credit, Commvault aggressively updates their product every quarter, so new features supporting a seemingly limitless array of technologies are always in flight.

Like, I call them up, request a specific feature...and the crazy SOBs add it to the next Service Pack! I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming! :D
