So I'm trying to do a restore from a backupset and I need to build the table of contents and I keep getting this error. It states that there's no storage media available.

I assume that means there's no space where it's looking to try to write the table of contents to, ok but I don't know how to check where it's trying to write to so I can clear it.

I've tried googling for TOCDest but nothing is coming up on how to set or find where to set that.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

The TOC is written to the TOCMGmtclass:
TOCMGmtclass
Specifies the name of the management class to which the table of contents should be bound. If you do not specify a management class, the table of contents is bound to the default management class for the policy domain to which the node is assigned. If you create a table of contents you must define the TOCDESTINATION attribute in the backup copy group for the specified management class.

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

OK so I've dug a little deeper. It's not trying to use a tocpool like the domain says. When I review further into the activity log it's trying to write to C:\TSM\TOC on my local backup server. And for some reason it's getting denied. There is plenty of space on that server for a toc file for one node.

Has anyone run across a problem like that before?

PREDATAR Control23

I think I was misunderstanding whats' going on.
I think looking at this part of the act log it's trying to reference a TOC file that doesn't exist

And then it goes ahead and unmounts the tape. This backupset was not made with a TOC and needs to be generated by the backupset (which I know takes time). Is there a way to clear up whatever is telling TSM that there is a toc file in C:\TSM\TOC\ ?

PREDATAR Control23

Are you using library sharing? If so, that APAR does not apply to you.

Can you paste the full activity log messages for ANR4955E and ANR1401W as well as a few messages above and below that to see what's really going on.

PREDATAR Control23

If it already has a TOC, why are you trying to create one? You can check with QUERY BACKUPSET to see if there is one. If not, you can use GENERATE BACKUPSETTOC to create one.

Here's pretty much what you're looking for not much after the error other than tapes unmounting and most of the stuff before hand is just nodes checking in.

I might need to explain that we do backupsets to tape through the tivoli server as opposed to locally on nodes themselves. I've been told this is the wrong way to do this and I'm slowly fixing the issue but when I have to go back a year in time before I was working with the system I have to access things the way they did it.

Can you show:
query backupset racer1 msu4backupset.343986864 f=d
query devclass {device class name from above command} f=d

Whatever tried the first time to make the TOC failed and that's what I'm really unclear about. The one in the code is the most recent attempt and for some reason looking for that toc file that does not exist anywhere

PREDATAR Control23

What's the copy destination and toc destination of the copygroup for the default management class?
If the toc destination defined, show "q dev {devclass} f=d" for the device class of the storage pool in toc destination
If the toc destination is not defined, show "q dev {devclass} f=d" for the device class of the storage pool in copy destination

With that, I want to see which devlass it's using and if one of those is a file device class and if C:\TSM\TOC is listed as one of the directories.

PREDATAR Control23

The default management class defines the toc destination as tocpool. which is devclass file_toc_1

Code:

I think I found my issue. The tocpool volume it was looking for had failed so I cleared it out and it's building a new one now. We'll see how that goes.

PREDATAR Control23

That cleared up my issue my TOC successfully created this time.
