Remove Tapes from Lib

Hi i have tapes in library which i checked in to do a restore.
Restore done. i want to remove the tapes out of tsm again.
do i use the checkout libvolume command?

Because my fellow tsm admin says when using checkout libvolume command tsm expires the data after a while.
