Friends,

We have a Spectrum Protect Plus environment (10.1.9) where the amount of used backup storage is reduced a lot and now we want to detach some storage for reusage.
Within TSM (Spectrum Protect) this is a piece of cake, but within Plus I don't see such option to reduce the amount of available backup storage.

Does anyone knows a trick on how to reduce the amount of available backup storage in Plus? Without losing backup data of course...

Hi.
If you want to reduce vsnap storage you need to open a case with IBM. They have information how this can be done. You need to run some zpool commands. We did this with successful result.

From IBM Support.
"This procedure is not official, yet.
It is in the roadmap, but we do not know when it will be officially available."

Björn

Interesting as I raised case with IBM and they explained there was no current way of reducing SPP Pools

Ok. In my case we needed to remove SAN LUNS so that affected the pool size.
You can ask IBM to look in archived case TS007006905.
I cant give out information because of "non official support"

See IBM Notes here written Oct 14, 2021.

"I have verified with Developers how can we proceed here.

We could provide a few written steps as long as you are aware of the disclaimers:
(1) on paper this is unsupported and there is a small risk of pool
corruption. The underlying capability is there in ZFS but we have not
finished fully testing, so we have not yet formalized it as an official
feature in SPP.

(2) however, we have helped a few customers with this experimental
procedure and they were able to successfully detach large disks, so we
have some level of confidence that it works.

So, if you agree , Developers will write up some short steps and get back to you.
Please, confirm you would like to proceed in this way.
