Hello Experts,

Our company doesn't have budget to buy Spectrum protect for Virtual Environment, They have requested me to find out some solution to recover the System using TSM BA client agents.

I have proposed Crystie TBMR, still no funds for this year, what is the best way to protect our Applications on windows & Linux Environment without database backup's.

Will be looking for the best ideal solution from the expertise.

One way is to backup the VMDKs with TSM. However, this is a more involved and tedious way, and assuming that the VMDKs are accessible on a replicated storage.

But in the absence of the right tools, I don't see any other way from an image recovery method.

The other possiblility is to use a the latest VMDK backup (done via storage snapshots) and restore the latest TSM BA client backup on top of it if need be.

Another option for Windows is using the traditional BA client and grabbing everything that way along with system state and then building your own Windows PE environment to restore back with. The devworks wiki has some good info. https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/... Windows Server 2016 and Microsoft Windows 10
I highly advise you to test that process and test again. I took me a few go around to get everything working as I expected (*nix admin so WinPE was WAY out of my comfort zone). We've yet to deploy 2016 Windows systems so I've not been able to test the WinPE with those.

For the Linux vm's I recommend http://relax-and-recover.org/
Again, this is working with the traditional BA client. I do not suggest using your distro's version of rear, but build it from their github repo. I've scripted a few physical Linux boxes to run rear weekly and then dsmc i just for the iso file that is created.
