Is there a best practices example for the dsm.opt file for Windows Servers ? or perhaps 2 different examples one for your 2000 servers and one for your 2003 servers?

I understand there could be differences between environments but am looking for settings that would apply to everyone.

Does IBM have such a best practicies document for the Dsm.opt file?

Thanks

PS : dont forget that * means comment, as # in UNIX or REM in windows batch ;)

The TSM client for 5.3 includes recommended exludes that you can implement in the configuration process, if you use the GUI to do so. Also, the sample file, I believe, is in the baclient folder after installing the client. Hope this helps!

Check the performance tuning guide. It recommends the setting in option file for most of the OS.

Hi,

I have client configured in windows 2000, the system got crased and, we installed the TSM client newly (Same Version) and we did the configuration as before the system crash.

While we test a single file to restore of 10KB, it restored successfully, but when we try to restore the 20 GB Folder, it utilized much of time, we started at morning 6 AM but it not started till the 7 PM, can any one help me in resolving the issue.

Kindly help me what would the reason for the problem.

Restore time depends on the file size, number of files, how fragmented your data is, and where its coming from. If you are using tape and its not collocated it may take a long time. If its on a VTL it may not take long at all.

You need to provide more information about your environment for us to make suggestions on how to improve restore speed.
