I'm quite new to tsm and I have the following problem.

I'm using TSM 5.1.1 with a 3583 library with two 3580 drives. I can normally use and test the two drives and the library without problems with tapeutil utility. But when I try to start a backup I receive the following errors:

10/24/02 16:54:06 ANR8311E An I/O error occurred while accessing drive

3580-2 (/dev/rmt1) for READ operation, errno = 46.

10/24/02 16:54:06 ANR8355E I/O error reading label for volume A00000 in

drive 3580-2 (/dev/rmt1).

10/24/02 16:54:35 ANR8778W Scratch volume A00000 changed to Private Status to prevent re-access.

10/24/02 16:54:35 ANR1405W Scratch volume mount request denied - no scratch volume available.

The volume A00000 has been labeled one minute before without errors and I can see on the 3583 front panel that is loaded in drive and drive is reading on it. After this error, volume is unloaded ad moved to original position. I can add that the element nuber in drive definition is correct. Can someone help me? Thanx.

Hi,

We too have problems reading tapes since upgrade to TSM 5.1.x (we are now at 5.1.5.1).... at first, we thought it was the drives so we asked to replace 2 out of 3 drives we have in our 3583... we were hopeful this would solve the problem. But... 12 hours, during the next scheduled mounting of tape for regular production, we started to get again those errors... (ANR8302E I/O Error .... Error Number 1117... ) so, could this be a problem with TSM itself ?

Hi again, I must add that the errors happend always when mounting or unmounting tape during label reading operation too...

Hi,

finally I solved the problem. It was simple. You can't use Emulex drivers for LP9000 cards. Tivoli doesn't work. You MUST use IBM FC drivers for FC HBA 6228 (and possibly also firmware).
