IBM development is asking if they were to support Linux what would we need support for. Right now Fastback supports Windows o/s. If IBM were to provide Linux support for clients. What Linux flavor, what kernel, and 32 or 64 bit would be best to start with?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Any comments on inital support for these versions right out the gate? Is this most common?
RH Enterprise Linux 5 Server for x86 based on 2.6.18 kernel
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 for x86 based on 2.6.16 kernel

Red Hat or SUSE are easy to manage right out of the box. I had (in the past) and have (presently) no major issues with these DISTROS. The web provides a wealth of information and help, and anyone with solid AIX or Solaris experience can easily adapt to these DISTROS.

I have not called support in all of the 5 or so years that I have worked with these systems and thus I don't know how the support goes as compared to IBM or SUN.

I agree,
RHEL5 which would cover Fedora X and CentOs. Client/Server
Ubuntu Server although there is a .DEB package that works well for clients but I don't know if anyone has worked to get an Ubuntu TSM server running.
