Greetings,

With OES2 Linux Novell will be promoting their Dynamic Storage Technology as an ILM methodology. I am in the process of making a decision on which HSM to purchase for our Novell/Windows/AIX environment. At this point I was going with CaminoSoft. However, Novell seems to have a product that can compete with CaminoSoft. I see a few issues though. DST does not seem to rely on the classification of data to move from tier to tier, just on the date last accessed. Plus, since it is using ShadowFS there can be only 2 tiers involved with migrating data between tiers. However, Novell claims that the use of the "stub file" actually prolongs the user from accessing the file where as DST does not. I planned on using 4 tiers with the 4th being Tape or VTL. 3rd Tier is SATA, 2nd tier DS4800 FC drives and 1st Tier DS8100 FC drives.

Any comments about going with one or the other? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Vincent.
