Hi guys,
Just wondering how do u name your nodes and tape. we are refreshing the TSM server and my team leader asking for new node name naming style (which i think is unnecessary) so I am here for ideas.

currently this is how we do it "servername_frequency_platform". eg: newserver_daily_windows.

for tape : D0001BL4 - B(location) L4(LTO4). the D used to stand for daily but now not anymore

Thanks in advance

Nodes are generally named after the machine name, it's a meaningful name that lets you easily identify it. The tape name are just meaningless letters and numbers. So there's no relation to the nodename and tape name.

With processes like expiration and reclamation, tapes get returned to scratch and are reused by the first come first serve.

Most people don't know and don't care on which tape a node has its data because the TSM Server knows. If for a reason you need to know, you could use the QUERY NODEDATA command.
