Similar to johansen's problem.

At the moment we have EMC ns-704 and perform NDMP backups via windows TSM server and IBM3584 library.

If we replace EMC with non-EMC kit then is it possible to restore data to new NAS (e.g NetApp, HDS, IBM, HP NAS, etc) or is it limited to same vendor's storage.

(just that we have 5 years of monthly NDMP backups ( many TB's ) and being able to restore them is vital.)

Hi,

Here is what IBM says:
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21080833
Before restoring data to a different NAS device, check with the NAS vendor to verify that the hardware and operating system of the target machine are compatible with those of the machine from which the backup was performed.
So as far as I know it does not work (with few exceptions - IBM nSeries and NetApp devices are OK as they use same OS - Data ONTAP).
Not sure if there is other NAS device using the same OS like EMC ns-704 ....
Maybe others have another experience ...
