We currently have a 7337 DLT Library attached to an RS/6000.

If we want to add another 7337 Library,

Can we chain it off the current Library?

or

Will we have to attach it to a different SCSI card?

What, if any drawbacks would be involved with having multiple libraries?

Any insights into this venture would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

it might be possible to chain of the second library from the first. I would suggest checking such a setup with the vendor during the initial order. This way you might prevent unforseen trouble later on.

The setup you are proposing has a few drawbacks whicj are not encountered when connecting the second library to a second SCSI-card:

1. SCSI paths are very sensitive, the longer the scsi path the more problems might be encountered

2. the availability of two libraries each on a different scsi card is much better; maintenance work can be done on one library while the other is still operational

3. the throughput of two scsi cards is better the the throughput of one

Cheers.
