Our MS group does monthly patching on all their Microsoft clients. They use WSUS to accomplish this. The problem we have is that every time the patching takes place, there are a lot of backup failures. Most of them are due to the patching and clear themselves after a reboot. My question is this: Is there any way for me to parse the patching failures from the "legitimate" failures using perhaps an SQL select? It's fairly cumbersome to manually check each and every client failure when we have so many after a patching cycle.

Not easily, because the server only logs the final RC. So all failures finish with RC=12. Best bet to "reduce" the number of failures is to install the patches outside the backup window and reboot after every patch if the backup is successful after the next reboot.
