Hello !



I Have A 3584 Ultrium Tape Library, And I Noticed That I Have A Few Tape Cartridges That Are In A Volume Status Of ' Empty '......Can Anyone Answer The Following Queries ?



1) Are These Tapes Usable ?



2) If Not, How Do I Get Them Into A 'Usable/Filling' Status ?

The status of empty volume indicates that the tapes haven't being used yet by tivoli to store the data. This not always means that the tape is unusable.



You have to check the status of tape volume in library, private or scratch by run command "q libv <libr_name>",



if the status is scratch volume, so it clear that tivoli haven't being used the tape.



else if the status is private volume, U just have to make sure that the tape access status is "read/write", please run command "q vol <vol_name> f=d", if not U have to make the status "read/write" by running command "update vol <vol_name> access=readw"



There is no direct access to change the tape into empty to filling status, if the tivoli store data on it, it would change the status of tape into filling automatically.



But, before U do that, please kindly refer to your policy management.
