Brand new proposed 3584 LTO-4 Tape Library connected to TSM server on AIX platform.
Should I set the library in such a way so that TSM reads 6 charaters of the Label or 8 characters of the label ?
    example: A10152 vs A10152L4
Which metod is better and why ?. Thanks for your responses in adavance !!

6 characters is better if you use lto3 or lto2 tapes for import/export or another issues...

I would prefer to use 8 so I know from the WEB interface which type has been loaded with guessing.

I see no issue with import/export with other formats.

I agree with Moon-Buddy...it's nice to be able to know by looking at a tape "name" in TSM what format it is...especially if you have mixed media or are going through a drive conversion.

I can't see any disadvantage to using 8 (versus 6) characters...

I inherited 8 characters and forward thinking  that gave us names that start with TSM and end with L3. (or L4), which limits that syntax to 999 tapes.
