Its not illegal to sell your used tapes..You can also degaussed it before you sell it or I can provide safe and secure options that meet the Department of Defense Standard 5220.22-M for data clearing and sanitization.

If the tapes still works and no scratches...alot of companies that do recertifying will buy your tapes...PLUS depends on what type of tapes..no one buys 3480's,3490's,etc anymore cause they are very very old tapes...

Sure it is not illegal to buy and sell used tapes, but most companies feel uncomfortable when their data - even if it is almost useless without the corresponding TSM database - might be loaded into the library of a competitor or some inquisitive secret service

Seriously.The only time I get rid of tape is to see them destroyed into a machine and i'm positive that the data is destroyed!

Careful: some media that has been degaussed, erases the servo track, making the tape useless. this is for companies who don't want to buy new tapes and prefer to buy certified tapes for less. Thats why we buy and sell used tapes to get them certified
