Need to label again to reuse the Tape volume ?

After audit library if trying to checkin?

Hi,
if the tape was labeled before, you do not need to relabel it again. When TSM is going to use any tape, it has to have an internal label - if it does not, it is not used. This internal label has to match with "expected" label - based on library inventory (so when you swap tapes in slots TSM does not overwrite another tape).

When checking the tape in the library, you can use "checklabel=barcode" - which believes the barcode is used as the internal label and does not load the tape to drive to check the internal label. When using "checklabel=yes" during audit, tape is loaded in the drive and the internal label is checked (it is useful when the barcode is unreadable or peeled off).

Also - your library can be set with AUTOLABEL and/or RELABELSCRATCH

Again - labeling once is enough.

Hope it helps

Thanks for reply,

If the tape is outside the library while auditing. Will it be deleted from the library's inventory.

Hi,
yes - TSM will delete if from the library inventory (as it is not found during audit). The volume still has its original access mode (readwrite) and is considered available (when not found in library, checkin request is issued).
If you want to check it in manually, do the "checkin libvolume" with "status=private" for data tapes and "status=scratch" for empty tapes (if you accidentally use "scratch" for data tape, TSM does not allow you to do it - so no fear).

Hope it helps
