We are currently running TSM server v4.2 on an AIX platform with a variety of clients (AIX, Solaris, Win). The clients have versions going back to v3.1.

Does anyone know if v5.1 server is compatible with v3.1 clients?

We are looking at going to v5.1 server so that we can use NDMP to back up our NAS.

Also, what is the latest level of v5.1 which can be considered stable?

Thank you for any information,

Peter Weber,

Hello Peter

We are in the same situation as you, running TSM server v4.2 with Win clients running a range of versions including v3.1

I'm currently testing to see if clients running v3.1 will work with a TSM v5.1 server. I expect no major problems because we won't be utilising any arcane features that rely on the v5.1 client.

My fallback position is to upgrade the client to v5.1 if testing indicates I need to do so.

I'm intending to use server v5.1.1.0 because it fixes some APARs that will affect us in production - ACSLS library offline errors and STK 9740 I/O issues.

Hi James and Peter,

We are also in the process of upgrading our TSM servers (on Solaris 2.6) from v. 4.1.1 to 5.1 in the next month. We have clients ranging from 3.106 , 3.7 to 4.1.1 on AIX, NT, Windows 2K and Unix.

I wonder if in your testing, you have found any problems with lower version of TSM clients (such as 3.1x) working with TSM server 5.1? Could you please share ?

I have done some preliminary testing and so far, for the basic fucntions, they are working fine. Could you let me know if there are any issues in your testing?

Thank you

Thank you for your replies. I have been testing and have not come across any problems yet. So far I have tried 3.7 and older clients on AIX4.2, FreeBSD, Solaris 5.5.1, and WinNT 4 against the TSM 5.1 test server. I will let you know if I have any problems.

Regards,

Peter
