Hi,

I have two daily tasks:
"backup db type=full devc=XXX"
"delete volhistory TODate=today-3 type=dbbackup"

When performing offsite, I take the latest DBBACKUP cartridge and send it offsite. I'm not using the DRM.

Now I don't know how to restore from one of these expired DBBACKUP cartridges.

Please help!

Thanks!

Hi,

just follow the section of administrator's guide about DB restore when VOLUME HISTORY file is not available - Point-in-Time Restore Without a Volume History File.
(you need to add volumenames=XYZ, devc=ABC and commit=yes/no paraneters to dsmserv restore db command)

hi,

the syntaxe is :
dsmserv restore db devcl=file volumenames=vol1,vol2 commit=yes

Hi hrustic,

What is your device classe type tape ?
q devcl

Hi, the device class type tape is LTO.

Thanks!

Also, could you pls advise of how to maintain offsite DB cartrigdes, if possible without the DRM?

Are you against using DRM? Why not add it as a backup to tape. Its significantly easier to work with and configure.

I'm not against :) just new to TSM, and not really familiar with DRM which looks complicated, from the first read. If you could give me some starting steps, it would be great.

Also, if to stick to the current config, should I keep the volhist as "backup volhistory" when offsite set created? If so, how should I restore it before DB restore?

Here is my step by step DRM protection documentation.
