Hi all,

Im looking for any documentation that help me recover my TSM Database from a Machine Failure, Im working with TSM 4.2, AIX 4.3.3

Do I need to have the TSM DRP module?? Can I recover wihout that?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

David,

You do not need the DRM module to recover TSM. DRM just makes the job a little easier for a non TSM user to restore TSM.

If you can still access the TSM server, migrate all the data from the diskpool to the tape pool.

Backup the TSM database. Once this is done, backup the volhist, devconfig and the dsmserv.opt file.

Could make a mksysb to restore AIX.

Replace the bad hdisk.

Restore AIX.

Restore TSM.

Restore volhist, devconfig and the dsmerv.opt files.

Restore the TSM database.

Once you got the TSM database restored, run some audits to make sure everything is where its suppose to be.

Of all the files that you really need is the volhist. Since the volhist file contain the volume name of TSM database. Without the volhist file, it is a pain to locate the tape that contains the latest TSM database.

The devconfig can be created manully and the dsmserv.opt file can be re-configured.

There are some red books that talk about disaster recovery.

If you get to a point were you are stuck, call tech support. That is what they are there for.
