Dear All,

due to a drive hardware problem, the "Number of Write and Read Errors" fields related to some volumes have been increased.

tsm: TSMSERVER>q vol A01190L4 f=d
Volume Name: A01190L4
Storage Pool Name: TAPEBCK_HSM_ATHENA
Device Class Name: LTO4
Estimated Capacity: 805,7 G
Scaled Capacity Applied:
Pct Util: 97,2
Volume Status: Full
Access: Read-Only
Pct. Reclaimable Space: 2,8
Scratch Volume?: Yes
In Error State?: No
Number of Writable Sides: 1
Number of Times Mounted: 3
Write Pass Number: 1
Approx. Date Last Written: 12.05.2018 00:50:41
Approx. Date Last Read: 10.08.2018 00:14:00
Date Became Pending:
Number of Write Errors: 1
Number of Read Errors: 0

Since I need to clear the error counters, I would like to know if there is a fast (and safe) way to do it.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Mauro

P.S.: my TSM server version is v.5.5

I believe you cannot clear it. It's part of the historical data that TSM keeps for that volume.

The only way it might work and it's certainly not fast is if you delete the volume from TSM, check it out, relabel it, and checkin. Of course you'd need to move that data to another volume first. Even then, I'm not sure if it will work, you'd have to try.

My concern:

Why would you need to clear errors? This is a log telling you that there maybe issues with the tape and possibly be due for replacement.
