Unfortunately the actual licensing situation with TSM doesn't match the output of the "q lic" command very well at all.

Each of the various products (backup/archive, tdp agents et al) are licensed by PVU (processor value units).

The "q lic" command reports a count of nodes - which has very little to do with PVU counts.

In order to work out if you are in compliance its necessary to know the hardware configuration of every client that connects...that acts as an input into the PVU calculator.

And no - I don't think anyone likes the PVU model :(

The IBM Licence Metric Tool does this automatically (after you deploy an agent to each server of course). It's still a bit of a buggy app, but does the job well enough.

Cheers, nice to know - the sysadmins here hate it (won't deploy it), so its not an option for me :(

I don't think Backup-Archive Clients require licenses. Servers, Storage Agents, TDP Agents yes, but not clients.

Sorry,
I don't buy license for TSM BA client???
but I buy license only for TDP???

correctly?
Thank's

ok, thanks.
But my question was different:
I use Model-PVU licensing for even the TSM BA Client?

Because umur had written that:

Servers, Storage Agents, TDP Agents yes, but not clients.

For all clients license are required (but not for all a lic file is in use)
