I am new to TSM and I am trying to test and document disaster recovery procedures and running into some problems and hoping someone here can help me.

I got the db restored via the disaster recovery script from the plan file and thought All was good until I went and tried to do a file restore and I get this error:

ANR1420W Read access denied for volume 000222L2 - volume access mode = "unavailable".

I have even tried to put the tape in manually into the tape drive and I can not get it to restore anything keeps giving same error as above.

Main server tape drive is a TS3310 and this backup I am using is a 3582.

Make sure you have the tape/s in question in the library and do an audit to update the configuration files.

Well the backup tape drive only has 10 free slots where the main one has 100 slots. s there a way to set it to ask for the tape it is looking for an I manually put it in and so on?

Isn't that what this is:

DEFINE LIBRARY ARIEL LIBTYPE=MANUAL

or is there something else I need to put...

Also thanks for taking the time to help me...

If the tape is in Unavailable or destroyed mode then the restore will not work,
Update the vol to access=readwrite

make sure the tape checkedin the library also check and see q libv .

It won't even checkin either. I really just want it to ask for the tape in the console and I put the tapes in maually.

Funny thing is after I tried the checkin and it failed. The devconf.out changed back to what the old server was and not the current one. Very weird.

Besides the LIBRARY inventory stuff this is what my devcnfg.out looks like right now:

DEFINE DEVCLASS LTO DEVTYPE=LTO FORMAT=ULTRIUM2C MOUNTLIMIT=DRIVES MOUNTWAIT=60 MOUNTRETENTION=5 PREFIX=ADSM LIBRARY=ARIEL WORM=NO
SET SERVERNAME server1
SET SERVERPASSWORD ******
DEFINE LIBRARY ARIEL LIBTYPE=MANUAL
DEFINE DRIVE ARIEL DRIVE0 ONLINE=Yes SERIAL="AUTODETECT"
DEFINE DRIVE ARIEL DRIVE1 ONLINE=Yes SERIAL="AUTODETECT"

DEFINE PATH server1 DRIVE0 SRCTYPE=SERVER DESTTYPE=DRIVE LIBRARY=ARIEL DEVICE=/dev/IBMtape0 ONLINE=YES
DEFINE PATH server1 DRIVE1 SRCTYPE=SERVER DESTTYPE=DRIVE LIBRARY=ARIEL DEVICE=/dev/IBMtape1 ONLINE=YES

When I attempt a restore It is giving this error in the console:

ANR8840E Unable to open device /dev/IBMchanger0 with error 16.
ANR8441E Initialization failed for SCSI library ARIEL.
ANR1401W Mount request denied for volume 000222L2 - mount failed.

I don't even have the IBMchanger in the cnfg as I want it to be a manual library. What am I doing wrong?

Figured it out. I thought devcnfg.out was the file tivoli was looking at for its configuration. When I did a q drive and q library etc... it was showing all the old information from the first server.

So i delete drives, drive paths, library path, and then updated library and define the new drives and worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help.
