Has anyone any experience of turning TSM into a restore only archive

We intend to have a different form of backup, but TSM will remain as a restore archive for the usual seven years.

It looks like I will employ a physical server, as small san storage and an IBM tape library. but want to make the system a set and forget (until files are needed)

Any suggestions?

Your plan looks good. I would also do the same for those long term backups. Just remember to run audits on tapes every now and then. Make sure that copies do exist and that you can read then.

If the system is online and processes run like expiration and reclamation, you'll want a database backup regularly. So you can't forget it if it's online. If it's offline until needed, then sure.
