Hi,

Can anybody help me on belows?

  1. I want to read tape media written by TSM but I dont know How to interpret data?
  2. I want to know about details like if I have read first 1024 bytes from a tape media written by TSM than how to classify them in header/body and various fields to extract meaningful information?
  3. Does single TSM use same data format to Write data on various type of tape medium.
  4. Do various releses of TSM such as TSM 5.2.to 7.1 use same data format?

I don't believe anyone in this forum really knows how TSM writes data to tape. I haven't seen a document explaining how TSM does it.

Hi,

the format is not documented/open - there were projects for reading TSM tapes (look for "tsmtape.h") - but mostly you are on your own.
I suppose the format is the same for FILE (if no deduplication is used) and all sequential media - but this is just my opinion. The data format is probably the same - my TSM 7.1 can read (and append) tapes written in TSM 5.2 (it was upgraded from).

Not exactly what you wanted ...

Harry
