Hi Guys,

I have a "little" problem understanding the consequences......

I have an old system MSPAUDIO , filespace name \\mspacluster\g$, type: NTFS
This system was a normal MS Cluster with a shared cluster-disk (drive G:).

My colleagues have now created a virtual machine (no cluster) named AUDIOARCHIV, filespace name \\audioarchiv\m$, type ReFS. This drive (M:) is a mapped drive (RAW device) from a HP 3PAR.

Can I save time and storage after renaming the new node to MSPAUDIO and renaming the new filespace-name \\audioarchiv\m$ to \\mspacluster\g$ ? What will happen with the old backup files/versions of files ?

Do I NEED a new FULL backup or can I use the old filespace from the old system ?

Any help is really appreciated !
Thank you very much

Hubert

Your old files will remain intact, assuming it's possible to backup an ReFS filesystem to a filespace that was initially NTFS.

That's two separate questions, not an OR. You won't need a full backup, but the first backup may be full if the files appear different (assuming the files were migrated from teh old to the new system). As far as reusing the same filespace, that all depends if they are compatible.

Best way to know for sure, it's to test it:
- create a small NTFS file system
- put a few files on it
- back it up
- copy the files to a new small ReFS filesystem
- rename the filespace
- back it up
And with that you will know for sure if it will work.
