Could someone confirm if there are there any version limitations on a direct server-to-server export/import over the network or can we really just do an 'export node' from a legacy TSM 5.4 server on AIX to a SP 8.1 system on Windows?

Obviously for the data to be accessible post migration the client requesting it needs to be able to communicate with the newer server etc but that is a different problem for now!

Cheers.

In theory is should work. However, it would not have been tested by IBM. They would only test against supported configurations.

The only way to find out, is to test it. Try with a small node first, then try to restore some of the data. If all works as expected, you should be good to go.

The only place where you may see a challenge is setting up with server to server configuration. You'll need the use SSL for authentication if your 8.1 server is >=8.1.2. Follow the server-to-server communications instructions from your 8.1.x manual: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEQVQ/landing/welcome_sseqvq.html
