We have a 40-50TB Celerra NAS and currently back it up over the LAN by .bat files that specify all the various shares defined on the NAS.
This give us incremental forever functionality. It takes a long time to backup some of the shares mainly due to the millions of files in each. We're looking at using NDMP backups, and want to truly understand what this change would mean to us. And also ask for advice. I see we can do full and differential backups, and then there are "snaps". The "snaps" are something not clear to me....why to use them, how a snap is used when restoring a file or files...how to initiaite a snap.....do we even need to do snaps. The doc i've read on the IBM site has sparse info on the snaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Configuring NDMP Backups on Celerra

Download the following manual from EMC Powerlink, it has a TSM section.
