Is there a way of when doing stg backup to backup the data to 2 tapes at the same time, removing the need to backup the tapes to a second copy for offsite.

There is a setting for a primary pool to have a copy pool. When that setting is filled out, whenever data is written to the primary pool it is also written to the copy pool. This is good for systems that do streaming when using tape or for when both pools are disk. I would not recommend that you use it for a disk based primary pool and a tape based copy pool as you will need 1 tape in the copy pool per client writing to the primary pool.
