Hey guys,

as per http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21648978 it is (of course) possible that if the retentions of Mgmt Classes are setup this way that an IFFULL backup of a VM gets expired and only IFINCREMENTAL bacups remain.

However the document also states

"Despite the IFFULL backup being expired, it is still possible to restore the VM guest using the IFINCR backups due to the nature of the Incremental forever backup strategy."

and my question is - how?! I can't quite wrap my head around how that is supposed to work. The first backup in the chain, no matter what option you choose always ends up being an IFFULL. Which makes sense because it's sort of the baseline. The IFINCREMENTAL after that are, of course, incremental.

If that gets expired and all you have left is IFINCREMENTAL ... then how on earth is a full VM restore possible?!

I have not found any futher explaination on this ...

Anyone?
