Hi, we would like to implement Lanfree backup of our exchange DB as they are so big that the full backup over lan now take around 40h to complete. We're already doing vmware lanfree backup and it's working good. Now the question is do I need another storage agent intalled on the exchange server or can the regular TDP for exchange can act as a proxy if all the zoning are done correctly from the exchange server to the TSM tape drive ?

You're right, I did finally find the info in the Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange server Installation guide which state the following:

ENABLELANFree
This option allows Data Protection for Exchange to run in a LAN-free
environment (if you are equipped to do so). To perform a LAN-free Legacy
backup with Data Protection for Exchange, a Tivoli Storage Manager
Storage Agent must be installed on the same machine and enablelanfree yes
must be specified in the Data Protection for Exchange options file. To
perform a LAN-free VSS Backup with Data Protection for Exchange,
specify enablelanfree yes in the DSMAGENT (VSS Requestor) options file.
See Managed System for SAN Storage Agent User's Guide for detailed
information about LAN-free environments.
