Hello friends,

Is there a feature or job to verify and test spectrum protect backups? (within the backup job), so this allows you to test backups images/files and check if you can recover data from them?

Best regards

Hi,

Not an actual test, the only test is to do a restore, but there are mechanism to verify the data integrity.

If you are using a container pool, that validation is done every time the data is read. For example, when a client does a backup, the objects are split in extents and a hash value is assigned to each extent when storing it. Later that day when you do the replication to the target server, the extents are read and the hash validated to make sure it's the same data that was written. That's the short version, here's the long one: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/validity-checking-data-protected-ibm-spectrum-protect

If you are using traditional storage pools, you can set crcdata=yes on the storage pool(s), and perform periodic audit of the volumes to verify the integrity.

The Spectrum Protect TLA (Three-Letter Acronym): ISP or something else?

  • Every product needs a TLA, Let's call it ISP (IBM Spectrum Protect).
