From time to time I am running into a problem with our VTL. What I am seeing is that after a TSM server reboot (crash or maintenance) when TSM comes back up, the VTL may have tapes mounted in drives.
When I look at the library from the TSM Library Manager, these drives show up with a status of UNKNOWN. From TSM it does not appear that there are any tapes mounted in these drives. When I look at the VTL manager software I see many volumes mounted.
I would like to find a clean way of dealing with this issue. How do I cleanly get these mounted volumes back into a state where TSM can use them again?
For now we have been manually unloading the drives, moving the volumes back to a slot, and running an audit on the library. Ugly, but it works. Is there something easier?
